When Jason graduates from high school, he's one of the valedictorians, and everybody else decides he should make the speech.
He only gets about halfway into it before the sound guy figures out how to turn off his mike and the assistant principal drags him off stage. "I appreciate the public service message, Jason, but do you really think that was the appropriate venue?"
Jason tucks the banana back into the pocket his mother sewed into his robe and thinks of the look of pride on his father's face when he started laughing, out there in the audience. "Yes. Absolutely."
